Flush lights sit flush against the ceiling and often have a very minimalist design to save space. Semi flush lights sit close to the ceiling, but they hang slightly lower, allowing for more decoration. Semi flush lights provide a mid way solution between flush lighting and pendant style lights.

Modern homes with lower ceilings can benefit from flush and semi flush lighting that will provide a good amount of light and create the illusion of more space and height. They also work well for areas with a high amount of foot traffic because they stay out of the way.

Pendant Lights

Good for: High ceilings, above tables

Pendant lights hang down from the ceiling. They provide a focal point and add a dramatic statement to a room. This makes them ideal for tall, grand spaces such as staircases and rooms with very high ceilings. They also look great hung over a dining room or kitchen table where they create a focused source of light.

Some pendant ceiling lights have an adjustable chain or cord, so that they can be hung at a shorter length. These are known as rise and fall pendant lights.

When installing pendant lighting, it is important to think about the area where it will be hung. Allow enough space below to avoid hazards and collisions.
