Warm and exotic interiors at Istanblue, Manchester
Every now and again we like to give praise to our more local restaurants and bars for their unique interiors. This week we headed to a new Turkish restaurant called Istanblue, hidden within the hills of Greater Manchester in Royton, Oldham. Barely a few weeks old, this little gem offers a delicious menu of traditional Turkish food including succulent Spicy Chicken Wings, morish mezze platters and mouth-watering Tavuk Shish Kebabs.
Well, enough about the food, as always with any of our city guides, it's all about the interiors. Istanblue has really gone back to it's roots with the style and ambience, a Mediterranean vibe of punchy, exotic colours mixed with earthy elements and warm wood finishes.
The establishment boasts a large open downstairs space that caters for a large number of guests. On first arrival you're greeted to a sea of punchy orange toned dining chairs that make up the dining area. To the right you'll find the waiting area which is filled with exotic ocean teal blue tub chairs adorned with striking black and white scatter cushions. Behind the waiting area you'll find the bar, a simple tiled front with a fresh white finish that leads you to an open kitchen where you can watch as your Mediterranean mezze is being prepared.
We love the décor here, especially the slate effect accent wall that takes you right to the back of the establishment and really gives you a sense of the scale of this stunning restaurant. This feature also adds an earthy, natural feel to the interior. The Mediterranean vibe is further reinforced with the use of decorative pepper and chilly filled jars and exotic house plants displayed together on shelves.
Lastly we must talk about the choice of lighting. Yes, you guessed it. These are our Wine Glass Chandeliers elegantly suspended throughout the dining and waiting area. We think they really add that luxurious feel to the place. Shimmering and sparkling through the large glass windows the lighting scheme creates a touch of glamour amongst the exotic tones.
To recreate an exotic Mediterranean interior in your home choose punchy exotic colours such as burnt oranges and teals. Keep your base colour fresh and neutral so as to not overwhelm your space. If you want to add an earthy element, be adventurous and choose a faux brick wall. Istanblue opted for a slate effect style but you can choose from a whole host of designs available online such as red brick, pebble design and wood effect styles. For domestic use we advise to use this style of wallpaper on chimney breasts or alcoves, adding just a hint of earthy goodness. For lighting we would recommend you give your home that finishing wow factor with a glamorous crystal or glass chandelier or choose from our range of Wine Glass Chandeliers if you really want to get the look.
