Summer Breeze, Australasia Interior Style

We’re back in Manchester this week for some more interior style swooning. This time we’re at Australasia. In the heart of Manchester’s trendy Spinningfields you’ll find Living Ventures iconic bar/restaurant, open in May 2011 it was one of the first to pop up in Manchester’s Business District and subsequently made way for many more themed bars in the area. The theme does exactly what it says on the tin. A laid-back Australian vibe with hints of pacific rim delicacies such as nearby Japan and Southeast Asia. The establishment’s interior style was designed by North West England based Australian designer Michelle Derbyshire . It certainly showcases her laid-back idyllic style inspired by her childhood spent in Sydney and summers in Fiji.

An impressive ‘Louvre style’ triangular glass front greets you at the entrance of the establishment on Deansgate. Immediately creating an air of mystery, this stunning structure is the only part of the establishment that’s at ground level, the rest is hidden deep beneath Spinningfields.

Australasia Interior Style

Make your way down the glowing LED staircase . You’ll come across a stylish bar area to your left showcasing an airy cream and white interior style with white washed exposed brick. Finished off with a stunning lantern display hanging above two intimate dining booths. Facing you is a small waiting area and greeting point showcasing a state of the art Emulator. The contrast between beachy laid-back interior style and sleek modern is evident here with the use of  glossy marble finishes with a trimming of LED strip lights and large clam shell ornaments displaying oriental orchids.

Turn right at the stairs and the actual size of the restaurant becomes apparent. The establishment stretches right back showcasing an array of tables lined up in three rows. Again the light and airy interior style flows through. Made up of sun-bleached rattan furniture, sandy bleached pale driftwood and floor to ceiling of fresh white. Creating a feeling of more space and a laid back Australian beach vibe.  Down one side of the seating area is a calming array of driftwood branches that creep up towards the ceiling and stretch out over an intimate row of dining booths. In contrast to these beautiful natural structures you’ll find rustic bronze bell-like pendants hanging low from the ceiling with complimenting bronze lanterns placed nearby.

In the centre of the restaurant you’ll find more seating. Cream rattan sofas with sultry golden scatter cushions make for a comfortable dining experience. As industrial pendants in glossy cream finishes hang low above crisp white clothed tables. The use of lighting creates a perfectly relaxed ambience and using different styles of pendants creates an eclectic feel too. More rustic pendants with an industrial style rise and fall pulley mechanism align the third row of dining seats, this time suspended above singular rattan seats.

Step down from the main raised restaurant area and make your way along a lit corridor. Here you’ll find intimate dining areas for a more private experience. Greeted with a long dining table and seats covered in more sultry gold fabric against a back drop of distressed white washed brick. Strip lights hidden within the raised steps create a floating feeling whilst oriental style bronze pendants hang central.

Summer breeze interior ideas from Litecraft

To recreate this interior style in your home it’s best to stay with a palette of natural beige, off -whites and creams. For furniture keep to natural organic fabrics and finishes such as rattan and bamboo, blonde and white washed woods and white linen covers. Add sun-bleached accessories and beachy finds such as shells and driftwood ornaments. When choosing lighting opt for minimal styles such as pendant shades in glossy cream finishes. Such as our Fisherman Rise and Fall Cream Pendant Light and Dylan Restoration Diner Fisherman Style Pendant – Cream.

To gear this look up for Autumn and the festive season add warmer tones such as burnt oranges, bronzes, coppers and rustic browns. Our Logan 1 Light Ceiling Pendant – Copper features a warm rustic copper finish, team with our Mersey Outdoor Lantern Wall Light for a contrast of colours and a more outdoor rustic vibe. For a touch of glamour add gold, silks and shimmery accessories. For a more hidden ambience why not add some LED Strip Lights, they give a subtle glow and can be hidden in alcoves, staircases and under cabinets. Take a look at our look book for more inspiration…
