Quill, an Interior blend of Vintage and Industrial
Once a designer shopper’s paradise, King Street is quickly becoming a fine dining location. Originally known as the Bond Street of the North, our focus for this week’s city guide will bring a new blend of life to the city centre street. In addition to this, the owners of Didsbury’s Chalk Bar and Grill have snapped up a prime location for their new swanky establishment. Quill which opened to the public earlier this month. A star-studded VIP launch party showcases a stunning mix of industrial and vintage interior.
The King Street gem, boasts a blend of high end fine dining cuisine spread over two floors. Following on from this, the ground floor of Quill welcomes guests to cocktail stations. As well as a terrace and intimate seating whilst the first floor caters for guests choosing to dine. With a capacity for over 200 there is substantial space to serve a variety of guests. From a blend of post work drinks and afternoon tea lovers to fine dining foodies.
On entering Quill, a cosy indoor Garden Room awaits you. Further more, A colonial blend of grey-washed wood, green foliage and stunning crystal basket chandeliers greets you. Large glass windows on either side of the room give a light and airy orangery aspect whilst a cream and grey palette of furniture and marble finishes adds a touch of glamour to the interior. Afternoon Tea is available in the Garden Room, so watch the world go by alfresco style whilst sampling an assortment of sandwiches, scones, cakes with a choice of coffee, tea or champagne.

Past the Garden Room you’ll find the main bar. The décor of Quill takes on a blend of moodier tones here, lots of dark wood, slate grey brick and black marble. A warm ambience is created through the use of vintage filament bulbs. These are suspended opposite the bar area over a row of intimate cocktail stations. Gold finished accessories such as hurricane candle lanterns and a gold trimmed back bar together with a blend of peacock, crow and other quill paraphernalia complete the lavish interiors. There’s an array of cocktails and spirits to tickle your taste buds including the intriguing Crow’s Nest which is served in a large perspex box covered in twigs complete with a life-size Crow inside.

Make your way up the stairs to the first floor dining area of Quill, a large neon sign lights up the stairwell. To the left is the main dining section, filled with black leather chesterfield booths. The open kitchen gives diners a glimpse of Quill’s decorated chefs hard at work. To the right you’ll find the exclusive dining section, roped for a more intimate experience. Quill’s menu features several choices including an A la Carte option where you can choose either two or three courses at a set price. A set lunch menu offers diners meat, fish or vegetarian dishes. Or really push the boat out and opt for the tasting menu and sample an array of dishes, from Venison to an exquisite Stone bass and seaweed concoction. Food is served on shell-like dinner plates adding to the luxury feel of the establishment.

A mixture of industrial and vintage lighting features on the first floor creating a moody ambience blend. In addition, Exposed filament bulbs displayed in industrial cages suspend above the boothed areas whilst stunning giant vintage decanter lamps line the back wall. Exposed steel pipes and vents together with stripped back grey-washed wood flooring reinforce the industrial characteristics of the interior.
Recreate this lavish décor in your home with some simple lighting, furniture and accessories. Further more, This is a great look to adapt in the kitchen/dining area.
