Quill, an Interior blend of Vintage and Industrial

Once a designer shopper’s paradise, King Street is quickly becoming a fine dining location. Originally known as the Bond Street of the North, our focus for this week’s city guide will bring a new life to the city centre street. Owners of Didsbury’s Chalk Bar and Grill have snapped up a prime location for their new swanky establishment, Quill which opened to the public earlier this month after a star-studded VIP launch party showcases a stunning mix of industrial and vintage interior.

The King Street gem boasts high end fine dining cuisine spread over two floors. The ground floor welcomes guests to cocktail stations, a terrace and intimate seating whilst the first floor caters for guests choosing to dine. With a capacity for over 200 there is substantial space to serve a variety of guests, from post work drinks and afternoon tea lovers to fine dining foodies.

On entering the establishment, a cosy indoor Garden Room awaits you. A colonial mix of grey-washed wood, green foliage and stunning crystal basket chandeliers greets you. Large glass windows on either side of the room give a light and airy orangery aspect whilst a cream and grey palette of furniture and marble finishes adds a touch of glamour to the interior. Afternoon Tea is available in the Garden Room, so watch the world go by alfresco style whilst sampling an assortment of sandwiches, scones, cakes with a choice of coffee, tea or champagne.

Quill’s Interior Delights : Cocktail Bar

Past the Garden Room you’ll find the main bar, the décor takes on a moodier tone here, lots of dark wood, slate grey brick and black marble. A warm ambience is created through the use of vintage filament bulbs that are suspended opposite the bar area over a row of intimate cocktail stations. Gold finished accessories such as hurricane candle lanterns and a gold trimmed back bar together with a selection of peacock, crow and other quill paraphernalia complete the lavish interiors. There’s an array of cocktails and spirits to tickle your taste buds including the intriguing Crow’s Nest which is served in a large perspex box covered in twigs complete with a life-size Crow inside.

Quill’s Interior Delights : Dining Area

Make your way up the stairs to the first floor dining area, a large neon sign lights up the stairwell. To the left is the main dining section, filled with black leather chesterfield booths. The open kitchen gives diners a glimpse of Quill’s decorated chefs hard at work. To the right you’ll find the exclusive dining section, roped for a more intimate experience. Quill’s menu features several choices including an A la Carte option where you can choose either two or three courses at a set price. A set lunch menu offers diners meat, fish or vegetarian dishes. Or really push the boat out and opt for the tasting menu and sample an array of dishes, from Venison to an exquisite Stone bass and seaweed concoction. Food is served on shell-like dinner plates adding to the luxury feel of the establishment.

Quill Dining area Interior

A mixture of industrial and vintage lighting features on the first floor creating a moody ambience blend. Exposed filament bulbs displayed in industrial cages suspend above the boothed areas whilst stunning giant vintage decanter lamps line the back wall. Exposed steel pipes and vents together with stripped back grey-washed wood flooring reinforce the industrial characteristics of the interior.

Recreate this lavish décor in your home with some simple lighting, furniture and accessories. This is a great look to adapt in the kitchen/dining area. Our Industrial Diner Mesh Bar Ceiling Pendant draped over a breakfast bar will add a large pool of illumination. Prop some black roll top stools up against the centre bar for a touch of opulence. Keep to muted tones of black and greys when choosing wall tiles and splash-backs. For the dining space choose vintage style Filament Bulbs clustered above the dining table as a statement piece. Keep the vintage flare alive with Decanter inspired lamps to compliment. For a more colonial adaptation swap black seating for lighter greys and even creams. Choose more ornate and crystal featured fittings in lighter finishes such as antique brass. We’ve pulled together a look book for more interior inspiration…
