The BAFTA award winning baking show arrived back on our screens last week. The sweet tasting and deliciously presented programme has got us all busy in the kitchens. Not only are we replicating Mary's Frosted Walnut Cakes or having a go at Mr Hollywood's Crusty Cob Loaf. The show is also inspiring us with décor and interior design, particularly in the kitchen. The country larder style kitchen seen in the 'Bake Off' tent just oozes traditional English cottage design so this week we're helping you recreate this quaint and cosy style with some lighting and accessory tips.

How to choose lighting for a Bake Off Inspired Kitchen

Lighting for a Bake Off Inspired Kitchen

Track Lighting & Spotlights Bars

To get this look you need to think past the mason mixing bowls and stunning Smeg fridges for now. For baking, cooking and eating a kitchen should be practical as well as decorative so lighting needs to be a primary thought. Lighting is key for a practical kitchen, but don't just opt for a set of country style pendants. There are a lot more ways to add light to your kitchen, creating a practical and safe atmosphere. Single spotlights fixed to a long bar allow for a wider scope of illumination, place this style of lighting over baking and preparation areas in your kitchen. You can individually direct each spotlight to a specific area of the kitchen creating several pools of illumination. Track lighting is a method of lighting which allows spotlights to be attached anywhere onto a continuous track. For a 'Bake Off' style palette choose white or cream finishes, giving a laid back discreet display of light. Our Philips Dyna LED Spotlight Bar offers a simple four light illumination. Swivel and moveable lamp heads allow each spotlight to be directed onto a specific area. Alternatively our White Greenwich Track Lighting Range offers a versatile lighting system, additional spotlights can be added or removed as and when required and depending on your room size. choose from halogen or LED bulb packs.

Pendant Lighting

No country Kitchen is complete without a row of pendants suspended over a breakfast bar, kitchen island or dining table. Large pendants will give a large scope of light, if hung together they will give a statement to kitchens and dining areas. Rise and Fall style pendants are ideal when preparing and serving food as they can be adjusted in height when you;re ready to feed your guests. In keeping with the country cottage style choose pastel coloured pendant such as Cream or Off White. Our popular Fisherman Rise and Fall Ceiling Pendant boasts a retro nostalgic design, ideal for a countryside kitchen. This stunning light features a fully adjustable rise and fall function operated using a pulley mechanism, simply pull the cord to raise the fitting when entertaining guests and drop when preparing food. Place two over your breakfast bar and eating areas for a statement feature.

Under Cupboard Lighting

For extra pools of light think about under cupboard lighting. These handy little gadgets offer a specific glow of illumination over work surfaces, promoting a healthier and safer kitchen. Attach underneath cupboards and shelving in areas where you will be preparing cooking, baking and washing food. Our 3 Pack  of Delta Under Cupboard Lights are triangular in shape to sit snug against most surfaces. These are small in size, ideal for a discreet illumination.

To finish your 'Bake Off' inspired kitchen add some quaint floral bunting. Pastel colour garlands will also add to the country vibe, you could even add some throws for those chilly winter mornings at the breakfast bar. Keep to a pastel palette when purchasing kitchen utensils and accessories. Keep to retro designs such as Duck Egg Blue Smeg fridges and Cornflower Yellow Kitchenaid mixers. Don't forget to include some cream pitcher jugs with a selection of fresh cut flowers to give your kitchen an inviting summery vibe.
