After last weeks Chelsea Flower show we’re all in a tizz for flowers, floral designs and pretty colours. Another Bank Holiday weekend, the air is warmer, the sun has made an appearance and everything seems that little more lighter. So what better way to start the week than with a look at another home ware designer, this week we’re focusing on floral with a look at Bluebellgray founder Fi Douglas.
A fairly new textile designer, Fiona Douglas started her path to Bluebellgray whilst studying painting at Glasgow’s School of Art, her love of textiles soon became apparent and together with her watercolour designs she founded her company Bluebellgray in 2009, producing a collection of bedlinen, cushions and rugs. Flowers and natural shapes feature heavily in her designs which are all painted by hand and include vibrant colours and natural shapes. Fi Douglas graduated from Glasgow’s School of Art with a career plan already in mind, her love of colour and nature was key for the brand look. Think oversized florals in soft wishy washy colours printed onto the best quality fabric and adorning house hold soft furnishings and accessories.
Bluebellgray’s designs are always happy and summery with lots of overlapping hues and tones, her aim was to create happiness with her prints and the colours she uses, (she is known to colour coordinate her book shelves in her own home). This look is perfect for Spring and Summer, whether you’re wanting to add a simple pop of colour or a big splash of print you can choose from a simple cushion to full on wall hanging fabric. If you’re not a fan of over the top floral designs but love the watercolour style then check out Bluebellgray’s more abstract moody blue range featuring inky ombré style watercolours with not a flower in sight.
The fact that Bluebellgray’s designs are all one off limited edition pieces makes this brand even more enchanting, Douglas signs all her designs and labels them with a unique reference number to give them a little bit of history and nostalgia.
