These days home offices are gradually becoming one of the main areas of a home. For most families how we use a home office or study varies, for some of us it's a place used on a daily basis for work commitments and home business activities, for others it may be a place used at the weekend for sorting through home bills and filing away personal documents. Some home offices are used for relaxation, a quiet place to read or a quick snooze away from the hustle and bustle of the lounge and kitchen. Whatever your family and in today's case, your father, use this room for you will always need a good source of light. Desk lamps are probably the most obvious form of home office lighting, they enable a direct pool of light which can be angled and adjusted into a specific area to help with concentration. When deciding on that perfect gift for Fathers Day, think about what he needs in terms of his job and hobbies. We recently updated our ceiling range with a selection of New Flush Glass Ceiling Lights. These fittings are ideal for Home Office Lighting as the opal and frosted finish on the glass acts as a diffuser creating a more subtle glow. It is important in a Home Office area to have a more subdued illumination as to prevent a dazzling light whilst you work.

City Guide : Yorks Bakery Cafe

To finish off this weeks Litecraft Journal we took a visit to one of Birmingham's up and coming independent cafés, the very trendy Yorks Bakery Cafe. If you're in the Birmingham area this weekend why not treat your dad to a scrummy breakfast or dinner at this über trendy establishment. Situated in the heart of Birmingham's Colemore Business District the café offers a selection of tasty grub from hearty traditional English breakfasts to a tower of freshly baked cakes and sandwiches displayed everyday there's sure to be something on the menu to dads appetite.  On first approaching the establishment you're greeted with a double glass fronted entrance with a white industrial style stamped sign on a rustic wood panel, the looks is very laid back and inviting.

Once inside you're treated to even more laid-back atmosphere, it's a mix of industrial and rustic farmhouse. Straight facing the entrance is the main counter and food station which spreads almost the entire length of the wall. Hints of wood on the walls, the handmade reclaimed wood furniture and the deep wood flooring create a warm vibe, a good contrast against the harshness of the industrial, stainless steel features. Exposed vents and piping stretch across the ceiling giving an almighty industrial vibe, this look is reinforced further with a concrete slab that makes up the counter till area and a matching concrete wall towards the back of the establishment. Subway style tiles feature along the back of the counter and serving area which creates a New York urban deli feel and gives a more masculine raw look whilst retro cream angle task lamps light up the cake and sandwich display and again soften the raw feel.

The overall look is finished with a collection of exposed bulb pendants which dangle overhead throughout the café, this installation is bang on trend for bars and restaurants at the moment, we're seeing this type of lighting more and more in commercial properties as it gives a trendy industrial feel whilst also creating a soft ambience for visitors. Pops of colour come from the yellow chairs and monthly art exhibitions hung on the walls breakup the cold industrial feel.

To get this look opt for a blank canvas of creams and off whites, choose grey if desired. Add industrial elements such as subway tiling, industrial pendants mixed with fancy Squirrel Cage Bulbs and retro task lamps. Soften the look with hints of warm wood and mustard yellow tones, strip back any flooring to reveal original wood panels and choose wooden furniture, ideally second hand and reclaimed for a more rustic look. To complete the industrial feel why no paint one wall or a small section in blackboard paint.
