When we think of Christmas one of the first colours that springs to mind is red, Santa's big red coat, Rudolph's shiny nose, holly berries and striped red candy canes. While we see this colour in a more traditional palette and sometimes a little old fashioned, it's also a colour that can be easily updated. We see a lot of red in Scandinavian Christmas interiors in motifs and patterns on a more minimalistic natural look, but this colour can also be jazzed up and given a little sparkle. When put with clear and black crystal or glassware the look becomes classy and sophisticated, less dated and fluffy. Think large hurricane vases, glass bowls and crystal ornaments.

Choose sequin glitzy black and red scatter cushions against velvet throws for extra layering and warmth.

Place silver candelabras with silver finished stag heads as a backdrop for crystal and chrome table lamps.

When it comes to lighting the more glamorous the better but keep lines simple and clean, this look is all about minimalism. For ceiling fittings go all out black or chrome, choose a full on red fitting if you're feeling a little more adventurous but if you already have your own chandelier you can always add a little more sparkle and replace clear crystal droplets with coloured. Our Almond crystal range includes red and black options in small medium and large. For table lamps keep bases in either crystal, glass or nickel.

For extra festive frill, why not spray some acorns, pine cones and chestnuts with silver spray and place in hurricane vases and bowls or scatter along the dining table as a centre piece. Pick some red roses cut the stems short and place in a square vase or a luscious poinsettia finish with a scattering of mini red and silver baubles.
