Consumers can do their bit to help reduce global warming and save money at the same time. Energy saving light bulbs last on average 12 times as long as normal light bulbs and use only a quarter of the energy. However, the cost of about £5.18 per light bulb can be off putting when compared with just 69p for an ordinary 100w version.

Now, Litecraft, the countries largest lighting company, has teamed up with the Lighting Association and the Energy Saving Trust to sell high quality branded Philips energy saving light bulbs throughout the UK at just 79p per light bulb.

This subsidised price tag has been achieved by some of the UKs leading energy companies working together in a bid to reduce global temperatures from their projected rise over the next century of between 1.8 and 4 degrees centigrade. Powergen and the Lighting Association set up the energy saving light bulbs scheme in 2005 to establish a competitive route to market for energy saving light bulbs. This has resulted in some of the industry's leading brands being available at low prices.

ENERGY EFFICIENCY FACTS:

In most homes, lighting accounts for 10 to 15 percent of the electricity bill, with UK households annually spending £1.2 billion on lighting. Every energy saving light bulb will save around £7 a year and yet UK households currently have, on average, only 2 energy saving light bulbs each. By being energy efficient we can reduce our energy needs and reduce our contribution to climate change.
